  • Subteam:

    Programming (C++)/Mechanics
  • Clay worked for JPL and helped write the landing code for the Curiosity Mars Rover. However he decided to leave that job for a new one on the east coast working on the control system for a brand new surgical Robot. We wish him every success, he will be truly missed on this team.

Sam

  • Years on the team:

    5 (3 as mentor)

    Last year on team: 2012

  • Subteam:

    Drive Train/Bumpers
  • Sam joined the team as a student in 2007. He is one of the few students to design a complete subsystem on his own. He was also co-pilot in 2009. He stayed on as mentor after graduation until he moved out of state. Sam now lives in Texas to continue his education and pursue a degree in communications.

Maddye

  • Years on the team:

    4 (1 as mentor)

    Last year on team: 2012

  • Subteam:

    Computer Aided Design
  • Maddye started with team 702 as a student for the 2009 season. Devoting most of her time to learning how to do Computer Aided Design, she eventually became the head of the CAD subteam for the 2011 season. Unfortunately, she was the only member left of that subteam giving her the daunting task of doing all CAD work for the team and unable to train a replacement. Upon graduating, Maddye offered to continue as a mentor for the team to train future CAD members in hopes of preventing the situation she had to deal with of working without any guidance or help. Maddye is pursuing Computer Aided Design as a career.

Vince

  • Years on the team:

    3

    Last year on team: 2009

  • Subteam:

    Mechanics
  • Vince is an Engineer with Raytheon who joined the team at the same time as Davis. Before Raytheon he worked in many other places including as a Disney Imagineer at Tokyo Disneyland. Unfortunately for the team, Vince was transferred to Anaheim making it impossible to come to Culver City with any regularity to help. However, our loss was another team's gain as he quickly found a FIRST team in Anaheim to mentor.

Alfredo

  • Years on the team:

    17

    Last year on team: 2017

  • Subteam:

    Drive Train
  • Woodie Flowers Award Winner for Central Valley Regional 2014

  • Alfredo helped found team 702 with original coach Swanson. Her boyfriend at the time, when asked if he wanted to help her with the robotics team, Alfredo said he didn't know anything about robots. Her response was "Neither do I, do you want to help or not?" Knowing there was only one correct answer to this question, Alfredo became team 702's first mentor. Having been a hobby motorcycle racer for most of his life, it turned out that Alfredo actually knew much more than he thought about building robots. His experience allowed him to understand the concepts of traction, gear ratios, chain and sprocket drive, torque, and structure which are all very necessary to making a robot that is both easy to drive and extremely manuverable.
