Brownie (aka Ms. Brownie)

  • Real Name:

    Arielle
  • Years on the team:

    5
  • Her version:

I literally just brought brownies for the team meeting like 7 weeks in a row.
  • Coach's version:

I miss those brownies... so do everyone that was on the team during the 5 years she was on the team. But don't think the brownies only came for 7 weeks, that is just how long before she got named. Aside from build season, we had brownies at every meeting for 5 years. Robotics is fun, but chocolate makes everything better, even robotics meetings.

Mostaza

  • Real Name:

    Chris
  • Years on the team:

    2
  • His version:

I went on the usual Costco supply trip and absolutely had to have a hotdog. When the team saw how I ate it, they immediately named me Mostaza, because I had "a little hot dog with my mustard".
  • Coach's version:

We seriously couldn't see the hot dog anymore! He might as well have had a bun of mustard. The trick was finding a name that fit. Mustard does not sound like a name. An old spoof movie ("Top Secret" that's the name, it's not a secret really) named a character Moutard (French for mustard) but that sounded bad. So someone suggested the Spanish for mustard bringing us Mostaza.

The Joker

  • Real Name:

    Aaron
  • Years on the team:

    4
  • His version:

I had a very shrill and cackling laugh which team members had been trying to name me for, but what capped it off was the day I came to school wearing a purple polo shirt, a bright green sweatshirt, and a purple top hat. I wore that top hat to every competition.
  • Coach's version:

Purple and green together! With the laugh! You would have named him Joker too!

Tweedle Dee

  • Real Name:

    Emma
  • Years on the team:

    1
  • Her version:

I have a paired name with Maya, Tweedle Dum, because we were always together (pretty much attached at the hip) and we were always goofing around and blaming other people. Side note: 3 years later, we got matching tattoos of the hats and bow ties that Dee and Dum wear.
  • Coach's version:

The word is Kanoodling. I don't think it's a real word, but it fit the pair that the team referred to as Emmaya. They were always together and always doing something silly or stupid. We try to avoid naming people together, in case one of them leaves. In this case we thought we were safe, as the tattoo story proves. And who better to name them after than the insane twins of wonderland who like Emmaya were always together and ALWAYS doing something stupid.
